Friday was not just another day for the students of Yuvaraja’s College. Apart from the syllabus, the students got a class on do’s and don’ts on traffic front.
The city police had organised an orientation programme on traffic at the centenary hall of Maharaja’s College here.
What caught students by surprise was their own violations. The police had shot the violations carried out by the students while entering the college campus, and screened the same at the programme. No doubt, the students went dumb for a while.
Youth
Targeting the youth, the police advised the gathering to adhere to traffic rules at least for their own safety. It not only shields them from becoming vulnerable to mishaps, but also makes them a law abiding citizen. The two-wheelers and four-wheelers should carry the relevant documents like RC book, insurance, driving licence, emission certificate among others.
Skit
A group of students staged a skit highlighting the importance of golden hour, the time after accident and how to help the injured people. It also gave a peek into the role of public during exigency.
Impressed, ACP (traffic) Shankaregowda announced a cash prize of Rs 2,000 for the skit.
Earlier, with the help of documentaries and footage of accidents derived from the CCTV cameras installed at the prominent junctions of Bangalore, the police taught the students- how dangerous it could prove for even a minute err on the road.
Inaugurating the programme, police commissioner K L Sudheer said helmetless riding is the major issues claiming lives in accidents.
DCP (crime and traffic) K P Bheemaiah, inspector of K R Traffic police station, Prabhakar Bharki, administrative officer of the college H S Basavaraju, principal S N Gayathri and others were present.
