ZP members to meet CM seeking funds for water projects

The Zilla Panchayat resolved to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, to submit a petition to release grants to solve water crisis in the district. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by ZP President Chaitrasri on Monday.

"Already several villages in the district are facing water crisis. There is a need to take precautionary measures to mitigate the crisis during peak summer," said the members.

Though the district has received rainfall, it was not sufficient to increase the ground water table.

The water level in bore-wells has declined. Water is being supplied through tankers in a few villages, said Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industries President Kavitha Lingaraju.

A member said that 400 students are pursuing their studies in a school at Chowlahiriyooru in Kadur. The school is facing severe water crisis. Despite bringing the issue to the notice of officers, no action has been initiated so far.

MLC M K Pranesh said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister H K Patil have promised to release grants to mitigate the water crisis. There is a need to appraise the water crisis in the district to DC and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister, he added.

The members decided to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on November 30 during his visit to Narasimharajapura.

Deputy Commissioner Srirangaiah said that he along with revenue and forest department officials will visit Navilugudde quarry site to assess the reality.

The DC said that an action plan of Rs 62 crore for drinking water projects has been submitted, of which Rs 45 crore has been sanctioned. A proposal for Rs 23 crore for emergency works has been submitted to the government.
