Thiruvananthapuram: A 22-year-old youth was killed in a wild elephant attack at Mullaringadu in Idukki district of Kerala on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Amar Ilah. The incident triggered strong protest by local people who alleged of inaction by government authorities on their constant plight of wild elephant threats in the region, which is close to the forest areas.

Local ward member Ullas of Mullaringadu told reporters that the fresh incident took place when Ilah went to bring back his cattle after grazing at a teak plantation near his house. Wild elephants are used to, to frequently enter human settlements in the region, he said.

It is the second death due to a wild elephant attack in Kerala in two weeks. On December 16, Eldhose, (45) was killed in a wild elephant attack at Kothamangalam on the Ernakulam - Idukki border area.
