Thiruvananthapuram: Right-wing activist and social commentator Rahul Easwar was held on Sunday in a case pertaining to defaming the woman who lodged sexual assault complaint against Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil.
Apart from Easwar, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and former BJP leader Sandeep Varrier, Mahila Congress activist Ranjitha Pulickal and advocate Deepa Joseph were also booked for defaming the complainant and revealing her identity.
Easwar was taken into custody from his house in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. His arrest was reportedly recorded by night after quizzing. Various sections of the BNS and IT Act were invoked.
Meanwhile, the police team probing the sexual assault case against Mamkootathil on Sunday carried out search at his flat in Palakkad. But he was yet to be traced.
