Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst the infight among IAS officers in Kerala, a similar infight is going on among IPS officers too.
Additional director general of police (ADGP) - Intelligence P Vijayan has reportedly sought action against ADGP-armed police battalions M R Ajithkumar for giving a statement that the former had links with gold smuggling rackets.
Vijayan was learnt to have submitted a representation in this regard to the state police chief Sheik Darversh Sahed and the latter had forwarded it to the home department.
Ajithkumar was facing inquiry for various allegations. As part of it he reportedly mentioned in a statement that Vijayan had links with gold smuggling rackets.
Vijayan was earlier placed under suspension on charges of leaking out information to the media about the transit of the Kozhikode train arson case accused from Maharashtra. Ajithkumar had then given a report against Vijayan. But Vijayan was exonerated of the charges in a detailed probe by other senior officers.
Ajithkumar, who is facing probes on charges of amassing illegal wealth and lapses in security arrangements leading to disruption during Thrissur pooram, was cleared for promotion to the DGP rank recently. The Vigilance also gave clean chit to him.
Meanwhile, an earlier inquiry report of Ajithkumar on the disruption during the Thrissur pooram also triggered a row. The report, that now came out, stated that the Thiruvambady devaswom, which is one of the organisers, deliberately created issues at the pooram. It happened just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in April and hence the opposition parties exploited it to trigger anti-government sentiments to influence the voters.
The report was rejected by the state police chief citing shortcomings and a three-level inquiry was subsequently ordered by the government.
Ajithkumar was also caught up in a row over meeting RSS senior leaders.
