According to the local police, the university vice-chancellor sought the enforcement of a court order of 2012 banning demonstrations within 200 metres around the university. Hence, letters were given to all mainstream political parties not to stage demonstrations around the university.

Last week also the university witnessed violent protests by CPI (M)'s students' outfit Students Federation of India (SFI) accusing vice chancellor P Raveendran and Governor Rajendra Arlekar of trying to implement Sangh Parivar agenda at the university.
