Thiruvananthapuram: BJP and journalists' forum have flayed the arrest of an online news channel in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday night.
Shajan Scaria, chief editor of online media 'Marunadan Malayali', was arrested in a defamation case filed by a woman NRI hailing from Mahe.
Scaria was held from his house by the cyber police. Scaria alleged that the police did not even give him time to wear a shirt and alleged that he was being targeted for exposing the corruption of the Pinarayi Vijayan government. He was produced before a magistrate and was granted bail.
BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the party would strongly resist the attempts by the Pinarayi Vijayan government to silence the media that criticises the government.
