Thiruvananthapuram: AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on Wednesday alleged that the Kerala government delayed registering a case in connection with sinking of the ship MSC ELSA-3 by succumbing to the vested interest of Adani Ports.

Venugopal told reporters that the CPI(M) government in Kerala tried to protect the interest of the Adani group instead of protecting the interest of the people. The ship sinking incident had hit the livelihood of the fishermen, he said.

The Kerala government's initial stand was that no criminal case need to be filed against the shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to ensure a cordial relationship with the major shipping firm that is operating to the recently commissioned Vizhinjam international seaport run by the Adani ports.

Kerala ports minister V N Vasavan had even said that it was for the ministry of shipping to take legal action as the incident took place in the deep sea.
