The case was registered against Shwetha at the Kochi central police station on the basis of a court directive of an individual's petition, police said on Wednesday.

The police were learnt to be quite confused in taking forward the investigation as the alleged obscene scenes mentioned by the petitioner were those of popular films with film certification.

Further steps would be taken after obtaining legal opinion, an official at the central police station said.

Incidentally, the issue came up at a time when Shwetha was planning to contest as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), which is the prominent forum of Malayalam actors. Shwetha is having high chances of getting elected as the president as many were reportedly backing her.

The petitioner approached the court listing out many films like RathinirvethamPaleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha and Kalimannu and an advertisement in which Shwetha appeared. He accused that the obscene and intimate scenes she acted were being widely spread through various adult websites.

Based on a directive of a local court, the police registered the FIR under various sections of the Information Technology Act and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Shwetha had won several awards including Kerala state award for best actress. Scenes from her real delivery were used in the film Kalimannu.
