So far video footage from three theatres in Thiruvananthapuram were found on some social media groups and some porn sites. All the three theatres are run by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).

The cyber operations wing of the Kerala police have started investigation into the matter.

Sources said that it was suspected that the video footage were illegally taken from the cloud storage of the surveillance camera networks of theatres by hacking.

"Earlier itself the security vulnerability of many CCTV networks in theatres came to our notice and we had alerted them. We will be tracking the racket involved in it," a police officer in the cyber operations wing told DH.

Earlier this year a racket involved in hacking the CCTV network of a hospital in Gujarat and taking video footage of women patients was cracked by the police.

Meanwhile, KSFDC authorities said that in case any employees were found to be involved in illegally extracting video footage, stringent action would be taken.

The modus operandi of the racket is to woo people by offering parts of the video footage by labeling those as soft porn and offering full video on payment basis through closed social media groups.
