Both had attacked the government over the alleged corruption in giving permission to set up a distillery in Palakkad district as well as the irregularities in purchase of PPE kits during Covid 19.

The Congress has been witnessing statements and counter statements on whether Satheesan or whether Chennithala will be the future Chief Minister of the party. This has caused much resentment in the party.

The ruling CPM was also taking advantage of it by ridiculing that Chennithala and Satheesan were competing with each other in raising baseless allegations against the government.

It was in this context that Satheesan and Chennithala jointly held a press conference at the legislative complex on Tuesday. They also rejected the allegations of lack of unity among them.

Chennithala also raised the distillery allegation in the assembly. Permission was given to Oasis Commercial to set up a distillery at Elappully in Palakkad ignoring the acute water scarcity in the region. In 2018 also the CPM government made similar moves. Corruption is in the genes of the CPM, said Chennithala.
