Thiruvananthapuram: Foundation stone for the township being built for rehabilitating those hit by the landslide at Wayanad on July 30 last year will be laid on Thursday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is laying the foundation stone. Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi will be among those attending the event.

A total of 402 families were so far identified for rehabilitation. In the first phase 242 families are being rehabilitated. Among them 175 families accepted the offer of 1,000 sq feet house in seven cents land each, while 67 others accepted the offer of Rs. 15 lakh instead of house and land.

The state government is setting up the township on 64 hectare land in Elstone estate at Kalpetta.  

The houses are being constructed by making use of sponsorships offered by various organisations. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also offered to construct 100 houses.
