Kerala continues to top the tally with regard to the Covid active cases in the country. Of the 95 active cases in the state, 69 were reported since May 12. One Covid death was also recently reported in the state.

As per the state health department's report, on May 18 alone, 3,495 out-patient cases and 25 in-patient cases of fever were reported in the state. The total fever cases reported in the state during this month so far is 1,14,512.

Health department sources point out that many patients suffering from fever were having fatigue, headache and sore throat, which are symptoms of Covid-19 JN 1 variant. Hence the chances of Covid JN 1 infection going untested in the state could not be ruled out.

At present, Covid-19 testing is being done mostly in cases of hospitalization or other mandatory requirements.
