Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala continues to lead the tally with regard to the Covid cases, state health minister Veena George said that a high number of testings in Kerala is the reason why the numbers are high in the state.
With 35 fresh cases, the active cases in Kerala reached 1435 and the total Covid deaths since January also reached eight with one more death being reported.
"As soon as there was a fresh surge in Covid in many countries Kerala started increasing the number of Covid tests. Kerala is one state that maintains the Covid data accurately. Hence the numbers are on a higher side here," she said.
She also added that though the present variant was spreading rapidly, it did not pose much health issues except for those with any other ailments. Hence people should wear masks, especially while visiting hospitals, she said.
Meanwhile, the state health authorities were keeping a vigil as schools reopened after summer vacations. Health authorities are also closely monitoring labour camps.
