Church leaderships are also seeking police action against Bajrang Dal activists for allegedly torturing the nuns.

Thiruvananthapuram: As the church leaderships in Kerala are continuing with the stirs even after two Malayali nuns held in Chhattisgarh were granted bail, the BJP state leadership has alleged that Islamic fundamentalist outfits were intruding into the stirs.

The continuing resentment of the church leadership has become a cause for concern for the BJP Kerala leadership, which has been trying to please the church leadership by urging the BJP government at the Centre and at Chhattisgarh to take a stand in favour of the nuns held on charges of conversion.

BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar himself went to Chhattisgarh and met the nuns when they got bail on Saturday.

Despite all these measures, various churches in Kerala are going ahead with demonstrations. This seems to have compelled the BJP to come out with the fresh allegations.

BJP state vice president Shaun George said on Monday that the church leadership and the Christian believers should be cautious about the intrusion of activists of outfits like Socialist Democratic Party of India and Jamaat-e-Islami into the stirs being organised by churches.

He alleged that activists of banned outfit Popular Front of India had intruded into the demonstrations organized by various churches at many parts of Kerala recently.

Political Islam is an issue that the Christian community faces across the world. Hence the intrusion of the Islamic fundamentalists into the stirs by churches need to be seen with caution, he said.

The BJP Kerala leadership was making all out efforts to woo the Christian community that comes to around 18 per cent of state's population as per the 2011 census.

However, after the attack on nuns by the Bajrang Dal activists and their arrest by police in the BJP ruled state prominent bishops of Kerala openly stated that any diplomacy with BJP was not possible unless these safety concerns faced by the minority communities were addressed.
