IUML state president Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and Kerala parliamentary party leader P K Kunhalikutty said that the ongoing move was part of attempts to grab waqf properties.

The Munambam land issue in Kerala, that could have been easily sorted out through discussions, was also being given political and communal colour, they alleged.

"IUML will go to any extent to oppose the move to amend the waqf laws. We will fight it legally, " said Thangal.

Kunhalikutty said that Muslim community will be badly affected in many states with the amendment. "The BJP is trying to unleash a campaign that there is friction at many places over Waqf properties . Even the Munambam land issue of Kerala is being given communal angle as part of their vested interests, " said Kunhalikutty.

Various Muslim outfits in Kerala also opposed the waqf (amendment) bill.
