Thiruvananthapuram: A lawyer in Thiruvananthapuram accused of brutally assaulting a junior woman lawyer has been barred by the Bar Council of Kerala from appearing before any court until the disciplinary proceedings against him are over.

Advocate Shyamily (26), was assaulted by her senior lawyer Beyline Das at his office on Tuesday using hand and mop stick on her face and neck, who suffered serious injuries.

The police registered a case against Das under various sections of the BNS including Section 74 for assault or criminal force against woman. The senior lawyer is absconding.

Based on these developments the bar council on Wednesday suo-motu initiated disciplinary proceedings against the advocate and decided to bar him from appearing in court until the disciplinary proceedings are over. A show cause notice was also issued to him.

Shyamily alleged that the lawyer had beaten her earlier also over petty issues and was even beaten when she was pregnant. She also alleged that Das was short tempered and used to throw files at juniors.

The Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association suspended Das from the association and extended support to Shyamily. State law minister P Rajeev called on Shyamily and strongly condemned Das's action.

Meanwhile, Shyamily alleged that even as she insisted that Das should be arrested immediately after the incident some office bearers of the association were against regarding the lawyer arrest from his office.
