In a letter sent to the Prime Minister on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that it was learnt from the media that the execution of Nimisha Priya was fixed for July 16.

"Considering the fact that this is a case deserving sympathy, I appeal to the Prime Minister to take up the matter and intervene with the authorities concerned to save Nimisha Priya's life," Vijayan said.

Kerala government's representative in Delhi and former union minister K V Thomas had also sent a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention.

Priya, 37, hailing from Palakkad district, is facing death row on charges of murdering her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdu Mahdi following a dispute in 2017.
