A Kasthuri, who became the HAV leader, is the brother of former MP A Sampath and the son of deceased CPI(M) leader and former MLA K Anirudhan.

Kasthuri was also a left activist earlier. But he was working with the HAV for quite some time. On Sunday he took over as the district president.

Talking to a section of media Kasthuri said that the CPI(M) was now deviating from its basic ideologies. He also said that he had conveyed his decision to his elder brother. But owing to his politics he could not respond to it.

"The word 'Sakhav' (Malayalam of comrade) is related to 'Sakha' in Vishnu sahasranamam. It means one who will always be with you and won't let you down. Even while working with HAV many used to address me as 'sakhav'," Kasthuri said.
