Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has decided to take over bank loan dues of those hit by the 2024 Wayanad landslide.
Revenue minister K Rajan said on Wednesday that the total dues amounting to Rs. 18.75 crore would be taken over by the state government by settling the dues from the Chief minister's distress relief fund. As many as 555 persons would get the benefit.
Even as the state government had repeatedly urged the banks and the centre to write off the dues, the requests were rejected citing that the Wayanad landslide could not be considered as a disaster of severe nature as per norms. Hence the state cabinet decided to take over the dues.
