CPM local leader of Kannur and former Kannur district panchayat president P P Divya is accused of abetting the suicide of Babu by snubbing him openly and accusing him of malpractice.

Babu's wife Manjusha approached the Kerala High Court seeking CBI probe alleging that the ongoing probe by the state police was not in the right direction. The court maintained that it would examine the case diary and also asked the complainant to give any evidence to support her suspicion over the ongoing probe.

The CBI informed the HC that it was willing to take over the probe subject to the court's decision.

The CPM leadership had also opposed the plea for CBI probe citing their general stand against the central agencies.

Babu was found hanging in his quarters on October 15, a day after he was snubbed by Divya. Babu's family even raises suspicion that it could be a murder.
