Greeshma, 26, was found guilty by a court at Neyyatinkara in the suburbs of Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Her maternal uncle, Nirmal Kumar, was also found guilty of destroying evidence and conspiracy.

But her mother, Sindhu, was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Sentences will be pronounced on Saturday.

Sharon Raj, hailing from Parassala on the suburbs of Thiruvananthapuram, died on October 25, 2022. Greeshma, hailing from Ramavarmachira in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu close to the Kerala border, was in a relationship with Raj for more than a year. But, her family fixed her marriage with another person resulting in Greeshma wanting to end the relationship with Raj.

As Raj refused to break up, Greeshma invited Raj to her house on October 14 and gave him the pesticide mixed with ayurvedic medicine stating that she used to drink it. As he suffered uneasiness he was also given bottled juice. As he continued to vomit even after reaching his house his parents took him to hospital and he died due to internal organ failure by October 25.

Greeshma had attempted to end her life by suicide while in prison.

Raj's parents said that they expect maximum punishment for the accused. They also said that Greeshma's mother should have also been punished.

Special prosecutor for the case V S Vineeth Kumar said that forensic evidence and other evidence collected by the investigation team helped in proving the case.
