Kerala Governor Rajendran Arlekar is also exploring options as former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's wife called on the Governor and briefed him about the attempts that Chandy had made during his last days to secure Nimisha Priya's release.

While Yemen-based Malayali social worker Samuel Jerome Bhaskaran is making attempts to negotiate with the family, the action council is pinning hopes on serious interventions from the Centre.

Advocate Subhash Chandran K R, who approached the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking centre's interventions through diplomatic channels, said that the Centre could use the cordial connections with many countries having links with Houthis who are in control of Yemen's capital Sana'a where Priya is now jailed.

Raj Bhavan sources said that after Oommen Chandy's wife Mariamma Oommen and son Chandy Oommen MLA called on the Governor on Wednesday, the Governor was also exploring all possible options for securing Priya's release.

Kerala government's representative in Delhi and former union minister K V Thomas sent a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention.

Priya, 37, hailing from Palakkad district, is facing death row on charges of murdering her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdu Mahdi following a dispute in 2017.
