Excise minister M B Rajesh said that liquor bottles would be having QR code stickers on them. Once the empty bottles are returned to the same outlet from where it was purchased, the Rs. 20 additionally charged amount would be returned after scanning the QR code.

It will be implemented on a pilot basis in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur from September and will be implemented across the state from next year.

He also said that liquor priced above Rs. 800 would be sold only in glass bottles.
