Thiruvananthapuram: Gold weighing 13 sovereign (British coin) that went missing from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram has been recovered under mysterious circumstances within the temple premises.
The gold being used for ongoing gold replating works at the sanctum sanctorum of the famed temple had raised many eyebrows as heavy security has been put in place owing to the presence of priceless treasures in the chambers of the temple.
The temple authorities informed the police that gold taken from the temple's strong room was found missing on Saturday morning when the gold was weighed ahead of the day's work. Though a thorough search was carried out in the premises it could not be traced.
Subsequently, the city police registered a case and launched a probe. In the meantime, the gold was found from a sandy surface inside the temple in a search carried out with the help of a police bomb squad.
The police said that prima faice it seems that the gold was misplaced and there seems to be no theft attempt involved. From CCTV footages also no theft attempt could be suspected.
