Thiruvananthapuram: The condition of a woman under treatment in Kerala for Nipah infection was stated to be critical, while her children and others who had shown symptoms were tested negative.

The 38-year-old woman hailing from Palakkad is undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College in neighboring Kozhikode district. Monoclonal antibody treatment was being given to her.

Two Nipah cases were confirmed in Kerala last week. Apart from the woman, an 18-year-old girl who died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kozhikode was also later tested positive for Nipah.

Health Minister Veena George said that a total of 173 contacts have been identified of which 100 were primary and 52 were considered high-risk.
