Even as there were reports quoting UP police that the 15-year-old Dalit girl taken back from Thrissur last week stated to the police that she was abducted and faced radicalisation attempt along with many other girls in Kerala, the Kerala police maintains that so far there was no information from their counterparts in UP regarding the case.

Kerala police sources also point out that in the FIR registered in connection with the incident at Phulpur police station in Prayagraj there was no mention about the alleged radicalisation bid faced by the girl. It was also learnt that the girl did not give any information regarding the radicalisation bid while she was taken into custody by the railway protection force or to the child protection authorities in Kerala.

According to reports quoting the UP police, the Dalit girl was allegedly abducted by two persons, including a woman, on May 8 and brought to a camp in Thrissur in Kerala, where she was allegedly coerced into converting. She allegedly managed to escape from there and contacted her family. Subsequently she was rescued.

Kerala police sources said that as per their information, two girls found in suspicious circumstances were taken into custody by the railway protection force from Thrissur railway station last month. On quizzing, they said they came down in search of job. Subsequently, they were handed over to the district child protection officials, who contacted their families and returned the two girls.

Thrissur city police commissioner Ilango R told DH that so far there was no communication from the Uttar Pradesh police in this regard. "We could conduct further investigation once the UP police pass on any information," he said.

The state police intelligence wing is also learnt to be looking into the matter, especially since a political campaign is being launched by some sections against the state based on the reports from UP.
