Thiruvananthapuram: A 57-year-old man who died at a private hospital in Palakkad on Saturday was found to be Nipah-infected.
Two Nipah cases were confirmed in Kerala recently. While a 38-year-old woman hailing from Palakkad is still under treatment, an 18-year-old girl who died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kozhikode was later tested positive for Nipah.
Health minister Veena George informed that a high alert is being maintained in Palakkad and Malappuram districts, and the public were advised to avoid unnecessary hospital visits in these districts.
At present, there are 543 persons in the contact lists of the three infected persons. Most of them are in Malappuram, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts. As many as 46 persons were so far found to be in the contact list of the person who died on Saturday.
