Thiruvananthapuram: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar faction's state president in Kerala P C Chacko is learnt to have tendered resignation owing to the internal rifts in the party.
Chacko, who was a former Congress leader and an MP, reportedly submitted his resignation letter to Sharad Pawar. He was not available for comments on the matter.
Chacko recently faced much embarrassment as his constant demand to replace the party's lone minister in the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet was rejected by Vijayan.
NCP-SP at present has two MLAs in Kerala - forest minister A K Saseendran and Kuttanad MLA Thomas K Thomas. Chacko backed Thomas K Thomas' demand for ministership for the remaining term of the incumbent left-front government replacing Saseendran. But chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly opposed it.
Recently an audio clip of Chacko strongly flaying Pinarayi Vijayan at a party meeting was leaked out by his rival camps in the NCP. There were also reports that Thomas K Thomas has now aligned with the A K Saseendran camp and the former may also be considered for the party state president post in case Chacko vacates it.
