Eight CPM activists sentenced in the case were on bail as their appeals were pending. With the SC recently rejecting the appeals, they surrendered before court on Monday and were sent to prison.

Among the CPM local leaders and workers who turned up at the court to greet the convicts included Shailaja who is a MLA from Kannur.

Sadanandan told a section of the media that being an elected representative, Shailaja's open support to political violence convicts would send wrong signal to the society.
