Thiruvananthapuram: The new leadership of the Congress in Kerala took charge on Monday with the immediate mission of scripting success in the local body polls this year and the assembly polls that are hardly one year away.
Sunny Joseph MLA, who took over as Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president replacing K Sudhakaran MP he should not be framed as a leader from a section, and he would be representing the secular credentials of the Congress party. Unity and support from all sections, leaders and party workers are the biggest strengths.
"With a hard-working new team, the aim is scripting success in the 2025 local body elections and 2026 Assembly polls," he said.
Joseph accused the BJP government at the centre of trying to implement 'divide and rule' and the CPM government.
Along with Joseph, Adoor Prakash MP took over as the convenor of the Congress-led United Democratic Front, A P Anilkumar MLA, P Vishnunath MLA and Shafi Parambil MP as working presidents.
Congress senior leaders, including AICC general secretaries Deepa Dasmunshi and K C Venugopal, who spoke on the occasion, stressed the need for unity in the party.
While opposition leader V D Satheesan expressed confidence in the Congress returning to power with over 100 seats in the 140-member assembly, former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that Congress would have 'Sunny days' ahead.
K Sudhakaran, who stepped down as the KPCC president, listed out the achievements of the Congress in Kerala during his term as president.
