Thiruvananthapuram: Some workers allegedly attacked District Congress Committee President N D Appachan and his supporters at a development seminar organised by the party at Mullankolli near Pulpally.
Appachan told DH that some workers under the influence of alcohol tried to create trouble at the programme. However, other blocked them from attacking him and no police complaint was registered
Over the past few days, tensions have been simmering in the Wayanad Unit, especially between supporters of Appachan and I C Balakrishnan.
Balakrishnan was recently booked by the police on charges of suicide abetment following the death of former treasure of the district Congress committee N M Vijayan.
The Congress leadership might intervene to de-escalate the issue.
