Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the Congress leadership in Kerala preferred to distance itself from the row of party MP Shashi Tharoor leading the multi-party delegation to foreign countries, CPI leadership on Sunday alleged that Tharoor trying to be part of BJP "sleeping cells" in the Congress. Some Congress leaders in Kerala also strongly flayed Tharoor.

CPI Kerala secretary Binoy Viswam in a post on 'X' said that leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's concerns about 'BJP's sleeping cells' in Congress was not a simple matter as Tharoor seems to be in search of his berth in that cell.

Viswam also hit out at the BJP, accusing it of using the fight against terrorism to "hunt for party gains".

Opposition leader V D Satheesan of the Congress said that since Tharoor is a Congress working committee member it was for the AICC leadership to respond. The state leadership will stand with the AICC leadership's opinions on the matter, said Satheesan.

Meanwhile, former minister and chairman of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee disciplinary committee Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that Tharoor should try to make gains in his international career and profile not by undermining the Congress party. He added that Tharoor should be taking any such decisions with the consent of the Congress leadership, said Radhakrishnan.
