Thiruvananthapuram: At a time when the country is witnessing claims and counter claims by various religious outfits over worship centres, the Sivagiri Mutt founded by renowned social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who preached the ideology 'One caste, one religion, one God for man', is again showing the way by setting up an all religion worship centre.
The model of the proposed all religion worship centre was released at an all religion conference organised by the mutt at Vatican to commemorate the centenary of an all religion conference initiated by Sree Narayana Guru in Kerala in 1923.
The proposed all-religion worship centre will have worship places for Hindus, Muslims and Christians and a meditation area. It will be a memorial of the all-religion conference held at Vatican, said the mutt head Swami Satchidananda.
The two day all-religion conference held at Vatican on November 29 and 30 witnessed participation of heads of all religions. It ended with a call for religious harmony and peace.
Catholic church head Pope Francis, who inaugurated the event, said that the preachings of Sree Narayana Guru are very pertinent now in view of instances of intolerance and discrimination.
“The lack of respect for the noble teachings of religions is one of the causes of the troubled situation in which the world finds itself today,” the Pope said.
The Sivagiri Mutt was founded in 1928 by Sree Narayana Guru and is now managed by the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust. The Mutt’s mission is to disseminate and propagate the teachings and principles of Sree Narayana Guru.
