Thiruvananthapuram: At least three persons were killed and widespread damage was caused in heavy rains, winds and high tides across Kerala on Monday.

While a red alert was sounded in several north Kerala districts on Monday, as per the later forecast on India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Tuesday only orange alert was sounded in Kasargod and Kannur Yellow alert was sounded in eight districts and green alert in the remaining four.

An eight-year-old boy, identified as Sulthan son of Sadath of Kokkachal near Bandiyodu in Kasargod, reportedly drowned.

At Alappuzha in south Kerala the body of a youth who went missing in the sea was recovered.

At Mannarkad in Palakkad an 80-year-old woman, identified as Pathuma, died after the wall of her house collapsed in the rain.

Two persons were suspected to be missing in a swollen Bavali river in Kannur.

Scores of houses along the coastal areas of Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram suffered extensive damage in high tides while heavy winds also caused damages in many parts of the state. Several trains were running late.

People living in calamity prone areas were advised to shift to safer places. Fishing from the Kerala coast has been banned.
