Thiruvananthapuram: One migrant worker was killed and another remains trapped after a granite quarry in Kerala's Pathanamthitta caved in on Monday.

According to the local police, the body of Mahadev Pradhan (51) from Odisha was recovered while Ajai Kumar Rai (38) from Bihar was missing. They were earthmover operators.

The incident took place at Payyanamon near Konni in Pathanamthitta in the afternoon. The rescue operations were affected as granite pieces kept on falling.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 2 pm while workers were clearing fallen rocks. Fire and rescue service personnel and NDRF took time to reach the spot owing to the difficult terrain.

Quarrying has been going on in the region over the past many years.
