The incident took place at Nallepilly government upper primary school in Palakkad district. Those arrested are VHP district secretary K Anilkumar, district coordinator V Sushasanan and panchayat committee president K Velayudhan.

According to the school authorities, the VHP activists entered the school premises while the children and teachers were celebrating Christmas on the closing day last week. They asked if the school celebrates all such festivals including Sri Krishna Jayanthi and abused, threatened the school teachers.

Based on a complaint filed by the school authorities at the Chittur police station the three VHP local leaders were held. They were produced before a court and remanded.

DYFI and Youth Congress are planning to stage Christmas celebrations in front of the school on Monday as a mark of protest against the VHP's action.

The VHP's action took place at a time when the BJP in Kerala is trying to make inroads into the Christian vote banks by visiting Christian families and extending Christmas greetings
