Kerala witnessed a row over data privacy in the Kerala electoral roll after Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala released online a list of over four lakh voters in Kerala alleged to be duplicate entries. The CPM tried to counter it by accusing him of compromising the personal data of the voters.

Meanwhile, some of the persons mentioned in the list released by the opposition leader on the portal 'www.operationtwins.com' alleged that their names were wrongly mentioned in the list. Names of some twin brothers were also allegedly mentioned in the list.

CPM leaders alleged that the website on which the data was released by the opposition leader was hosted in Singapore and it amounted to breach of personal data privacy.

The opposition leader said that he only pointed out flaws in the voters list that was already published and it did not involve any data privacy violations.
