Kerala Guv Farook dies in Chennai

Kerala Governor M O H Farook (74) passed away in Chennai late Thursday night at a private hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by a son and two daughters.

Farook was ailing for some time and was admitted to the Apollo Specialty Hospital some three weeks ago. His condition worsened Thursday morning and later he suffered from heart congestion. His end came around 9:20 pm.

Born in Karaikal, an enclave of Pondicherry, on September 6, 1937, Farook graduated in Economics from the Loyola College in Chennai.

An early entrant into politics and public life, Farook participated in the struggle for the liberation of Pondicherry during 1953-54, when it was a French colony. He was Pondicherry chief minister thrice. He was elected an MP from there in 1991. The Kerala government has declared a week’s official mourning.
