Kerala HC quashes sex abuse case against MLA

Scandal-hit Janata Dal-Secular MLA and former minister Jose Thettayil found relief on Thursday as the Kerala High Court quashed an FIR related to allegation of sexual abuse against him.

A woman on June 23 filed a complaint against the Angamaly MLA alleging sexual abuse after promising that he would get her married to his son.

Close on the heels of the complaint, TV channels started airing video footage of the alleged physical act, shot by the woman herself, leading the MLA to keep away from public eye for weeks. Justice P Bhavadasan in his verdict said the complainant didn’t have a case because there was no evidence to prove that the physical act was not consensual.

Thettayil, who has been denying the allegation that he stated was part of a political controversy, said on Thursday that the verdict had come as a relief and that the case had only served the purpose of maligning him.

The scandal had put the Left-led opposition parties in a spot as it took steam off their opposition.
