Kerala police collects details of assets of KGB, kins

According to a reply given by the state Home Department to RTI activist and lawyer D B Binu, the Special Branch CID of the Kerala police collected the details regarding the assets of Balakrishnan and his relatives on the basis of media reports in this regard.

However, the details ascertained as part of the probe had not been disclosed as investigations are still on.

According to Binu, the reply, furnished through the Public Information Officer, said it was not possible to disclose the details of the information collected at this juncture.

Binu, in his query, had sought to know if the police had conducted any probe into the allegations concerning NHRC chairman and his relatives, and, if so, what further action proposed to do on it.

Allegations of amassing wealth disproporitonate to their known sources of income have come up against Balakrishnan's sons-in-law P V Sreenijan and M J Benny and his brother K G Bhaskaran.

The state government had a couple of months back ordered a Viglance probe against Sreenijan, who was a Youth Congress activist and constested the last assembly polls unsuccessfully. Sreenijan resigned the prime members of the Youth Congress in the backdrop of allegations against him.

According to police sources, the details of of the assets owned by Balakrishnan's relatives were gathered from various land registration offices and by examination of related revenue records.

The report, kept as cofidential, had been given to the Additional Chief Secretary in charge of the Home Deprtment.
