With officials giving final touches, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited is expected to start commercial operations of its first 1,000 MW unit at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) by September.

“With all mandatory tests being completed, the first 1,000 MW unit will be re-started and the commercial operations is expected to begin from next month,” a senior KNPP official said.

He said the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) will take its decision to announce the commercial production at its meeting to be held on August 30.

Stating that the first unit has been shutdown for annual maintenance, he said after restarting it would take around one week to reach full power levels.
