New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to defer the ongoing hearing on the framing of charges by the trial court in Delhi in connection with the land-for-jobs case against Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
"The framing of charges will not render the pending High Court petition infructuous," a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh said.
Additional Solicitor General S V Raju appearing for the CBI, opposed Yadav’s plea and sought imposition of cost.
The court, however, decided not to impose any cost on Yadav.
On July 18, the court refused to stay the trial proceedings against Yadav going on before a special court in Delhi in a land-for-jobs case during his tenure as railways minister from 2004 to 2009.
On May 29, the Delhi High Court while dismissing Yadav's petition for stay of the trial, said that there were no compelling reason to stay the proceedings.
While refusing to stay the trial court’s proceedings, the high court had issued notice to the CBI on Yadav's plea for quashing of the CBI FIR and posted the hearing for August 12.
