Rights organisations and the Left have attacked BJP MP Yogi Aditya Nath for his controversial remarks against minority community. The BJP MP had accused minority community of causing communal riots.

He allegedly said that riots happen wherever minorities are more than 10 per cent in numbers.

Terming the remark as absurd, the CPI national secretary D Raja said, “It also shows the rabid communal interpretation of the situation-that if Muslims are 20 per cent or more, it causes communal strife. This is absurd and it shows the hatred of these people towards Muslims,” he said.

Rights organization Citizens for Democracy (CFD) demanded his arrest. CFD General Secretary ND Pancholi said that all the statements made by Yogi Adityanath “are criminal offences amounting to generate hatred and enmity against the Muslim community.

He is straight away liable to be prosecuted under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code which provides punishment of imprisonment which may extend to 3 years or fine or with both.”
