Five get life term for Dalit man's murder

A court in Rajasthan’s Baran on Friday awarded life term to five people, including four members of a family, for the murder of a Dalit man seven years ago.

The court also imposed a fine ranging from Rs 25,000 to 50,000 on them.

Special Public Prosecutor Awesh Singh said the court awarded life term to Amarlal Jeengar, his three sons Rohit, Rahul and Dhiraj, and Gourav Rajput for the murder of Virendra Raiger, a resident of Nayapur in Baran city.

7 killed in Nuh road crash

Seven people were killed and four others seriously injured on Friday when a dumper truck collided with an auto-rickshaw on Punhana-Hodal road in this district, police said.

The injured were admitted to Punhana Community Health centre, from where the doctors referred them to the Medical College, Nalhad.

The accident occurred in the afternoon near Madhiyaki turn when an auto packed with passengers was going from Punhana to Hodal.

The driver of the dumper truck managed to flee the scene of crash, police said.

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday said it has seized Rs 20 crore cash after raiding the premises of a "close associate" of West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with the alleged teacher recruitment scam in the state.

The probe agency launched coordinated searches at the premises of Chatterjee, the state industries and commerce minister, his aide Arpita Mukherjee, Minister of State for Education Paresh C Adhikary, MLA and ex-president of West Bengal Board of Primary Education Manik Bhattacharya and a number of other persons.

Delhi records 712 fresh Covid-19 cases, one death; positivity rate rises to 4.47%

Delhi on Friday recorded 712 fresh coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 4.47 per cent and one death, according to data shared by the city health department.

With this, the national capital's Covid-19 case tally climbed to 19,47,025. The death toll rose to 26,298, the latest bulletin stated.

On June 1 the city had logged 623 cases while the daily tally was 946 on May 30, according to official data.

The number of active cases in Delhi stands at 2,327, up from 2,209 the previous day. As many as 1,508 Covid-19 patients are under home isolation, the Friday bulletin said.

BJP hails Murmu's election as next president, lauds govt's works for tribal community

The BJP on Friday hailed as historic the election of Droupadi Murmu as India's next president and lauded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for working to bring development and empowerment to the Scheduled Tribes.

The party fielded Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, its ST 'Morcha' chief Samir Oraon and spokesperson Heena Gavit at a press conference to highlight the government's welfare and empowerment measures for the community since it came power first in 2014.

They also lauded Murmu's elevation to the top constitutional post, making her the first tribal person to be the president.
