Nine people died and at least 20 were injured in a explosion near Gate no. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday. The high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal. On Tuesday morning, the Delhi police registered an FIR under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and Explosives Act, and a probe is underway.

Bombay (Mumbai) — March 12, 1993

A coordinated series of 12-13 bomb blasts across the city, one of India's deadliest single-day terror attacks, left 257 dead and 1,400 injured.

Coimbatore bombings — Feb 14, 1998  

Twelve bombs shook Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu in 11 places, all within a 12-km radius, leaving at least 58 dead and over 200 people injured.

Varanasi serial blasts — March 7, 2006

Explosions rocked the Shri Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi, Cantonment Railway Station and on a train. As many as 28 people died and over 100 were injured.

Samjhauta Express (Diwana, Panipat) — Feb 18, 2007

Bombs detonated on the Indo-Pakistan train, killing mainly Pakistani civilians. At least 70 people died and dozens were injured in explosions.

Makkah Masjid, Hyderabad — May 18, 2007

As many as 16 people were killed and 100 injured in a pipe-bomb blast inside the mosque during Friday prayers.

Hyderabad twin blasts — Aug 25, 2007

Two near-simultaneous IED blasts at crowded public spots — Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Bhandar — in Hyderabad left 44 dead and over 50 injured.

Ahmedabad serial blasts — Jul 26, 2008

Fifty-six people were killed and over 200 injured when multiple bombs exploded across Ahmedabad in two waves. Major convictions followed years later.

Mumbai attacks — Nov 26-29, 2008

Coordinated shootings, bombings and sieges at hotels, a railway terminus and other locations in the country's financial capital was followed by a long-running hostage crisis. In all, 166 to 175 people died and over 300 were injured.
