An autorickshaw driver was today crushed to death when an LPG gas tanker went out of control and fell on the vehicle here today.
The driver of the gas tanker lost control while negotiating a curve and it fell on the autorickshaw parked on the roadside for some repair works, officials said.
The driver and cleaner fled after the accident.
A gas leak also occurred in the impact.
All precautionary measures have been taken by the district administration, they said, adding, sand bags have been kept around the tanker and water is being sprayed from five fire tenders.
People residing nearby the area have been advised to move to safer place and traffic in the area has been diverted.
Meanwhile, Kerala Home Minister, Ramesh Chennithala said precautionary measures have been taken to avert a serious situation and there is no need for anxiety.
Experts from IOC plant at nearby Chelari have rushed to the spot to monitor the situation, he said.
