The accused, Bunty Bhadoria, sustained a bullet injury to his leg after the police fired at him in retaliation during a chase and is undergoing treatment at Jayarogya Hospital and Medical College, an official said.

Gwalior's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharmveer Singh said, "Bhadoria is a notorious criminal, with around 25 serious cases registered against him at different police stations." According to the police, the accused had allegedly murdered a man in the Hajira police station area recently and had evaded arrest by opening fire at police personnel.

The Hajira police station in-charge received a tip-off about Bhadoria's whereabouts in the forests under the Uttila police station limits, following which the area was cordoned off.

Bhadoria opened fire with his pistol on seeing the police team and sustained a bullet injury to his leg after shots were fired in retaliation, the official said.

Additional SP Krishna Lalchandani said the accused had allegedly killed one Bhola Sikarwar along with his accomplices in the Hajira area on June 2 and had been absconding.

Empty rounds have been found at the encounter site in the forest, and a forensics team is carrying out a probe, he said.
