A 20-year-old college student in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district collapsed while delivering a speech during a farewell party.

The girl named Varsha Kharat, died on the way to hospital in Paranda taluk on Friday.

Varsha's uncle Dhanaji Kharat said that she had a history of heart ailments and had undergone a bypass surgery around seven years ago.

According to a report by Times of India, Dhanaji who is a zilla parishad school teacher, said, "She was on medication after the heart surgery. On Friday, she skipped her daily dose of pills in the rush to get to the college."

Varsha suddenly collapsed around 12.30 while she was delivering a two-minute farewell speech at her college.

A faculty member said that she was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

According to the publication's report, Mahesh Mane, a faculty member of the R G Shinde College said, "As soon as Varsha collapsed, we took her to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. A pall of gloom then descended on the farewell party."

The college authorities said that Varsha was a bright student and had big dreams for her family and herself.

According to TOI, Varsha's family consists of her parents who are farm workers and two siblings - a younger brother and an elder sister.

The cause of her death is not known yet, but it is being guessed that she might have experienced a sudden heart attack during her speech.
