The deceased was identified as Jagmohan Shivkiran Choudhari, who belonged to the Bal Govinda Pathak.

Jagmohan fell down from a first-floor structure while tying a rope to a grill, according to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

He was rushed to the Shatabdi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.

According to latest information, 30 persons were injured of which 15 have been discharged after primary medication.

Majority of those injured suffered fractures.

Reports reaching from various places of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region comprising Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts and parts of neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, revealed intermittent showers, however, it did not dampen the festive spirit.

During the festival, Govindas, as the participants are known, re-enact the myth of Lord Krishna stealing butter from a hanging pit, known as the Dahi Handi.

They form human pyramids to reach out to the earthen pot filled with curd and break it.

Songs like – ‘Govinda aala re’, ‘Mach gaya shor sari nagri re’, ‘Shor mach gaya shor’, ‘Go go Govinda’ -- rent the air as teams of Govindas moved from colony to colony breaking earthen pots.
